The convocation is for the students from the 8 faculties in the institute - Fashion & Lifestyle Accessory Design, Fashion Technology, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Textile Design, Fashion Management Studies and Department of Design Space.

The formal event of the NIFT Mumbai Convocation Ceremony is organized on Saturday 16th of April 2022 at Sophia Bhabha Hall of Sophia College Campus, Mumbai. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri. Piyush Goyal, Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, & Minister of Textiles, Government of India. The ceremony was graced by the august presence of esteemed guest of honour, Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Director General, NIFT & Development Commissioner, Handicrafts and Dean Academics NIFT, Prof. Dr. Vandana Narang. This year 627 students from the class of 2020 & 2021 received Undergraduate /Post Graduate Degrees from NIFT Mumbai.

Director NIFT Mumbai campus presented the academic report. Mentioned students, faculty and academic achievements of NIFT Mumbai. It was followed by an address by DG NIFT. He was talking about hybrid classes so that it reach to a larger audience. He was motivating students to develop positive habits and make role models whom they can emulate helping in their personal and professional growth.

Dean NIFT administered the pledge to both the graduating batches.

Honourable minister Sh. Piyush Goyal addressed the students greatly motivating them. He said that he India had great expectations of the graduates. When they went abroad to study or for business they should carry the India story.As ambassadors of NIFT and India they should make India the Fashion capital of the world. “It is an achievable dream”, he said since India has the wherewithal of exquisite craft, skills and an aesthetic sensibility to make this happen. He said,”Each graduate should spend time with clusters and artisans, help upskilling them and have a concrete target of increasing their income by at least Rs. 1000 a month.

More than 50 awards were given away for Graduation projects. The Graduation Projects in the area of Apparel design, system design, Game design, Visual Merchandizing, User Experience Design, Graphic Design, Garment Value Chain, Travel gear. The GPs were done in companies like The Great Eastern Home, Rynox Gear, Bonito Design, Boingg kids wear, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (Pantaloons), PVH Arvind Fashion Ltd (Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin, Welspun Group, Myntra, Raymond, Bombay Shirt, Liva by ABFRL, Bestsellers-Vera Moda, Reliance Retail Fashion and Lifestyle

Piyush Goyal to Attended NIFT Convocation


Mumbai: Piyush Goyal, union minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food and public distribution and textiles along with Darshana Vikram Jardosh, union minister of state, railways and textiles, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, member of parliament and member on the Board of Governors - National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Shantmanu, I.A.S., director general - NIFT and development commissioner - Handicrafts will grace the NIFT Convocation 2022 ceremony at the Sophia Bhabha hall in the Sophia College campus here on April 16.
630 students of the 2020 and 2021 batches of the NIFT Mumbai (Kharghar, Navi Mumbai) branch will be formally conferred their graduation and post graduation degrees on the occasion. Several celebrity alumni of NIFT, recognized as a premier institute for fashion education in India that continuously evolves itself to keep abreast of the changing market trends worldwide,  will also be present on the occasion, informed Dr. Pavan Godiawala, director of the institute.

NIFT Mumbai craft cluster initiative is strongly connected with the crafts and rural artisans of the country supported by the union ministries of textiles, rural development and handlooms and handicrafts. Providing guidance and support interventions in the product innovation process, retail chain, branding, marketing and positioning/displaying  of these products, the institute has goaded these artisans towards online selling in the domestic and global markets resulting in upscaling their sale targets and revenue generation. Fusing knowledge and skills at the grassroots, NIFT Mumbai is committed to enhancing and empowering the craft pockets of the country.
NIFT will be looking forward to the government for more support for research and development, for sizing of the entire country and initiatives towards global scaling, to complement the government's setting up of textile and technology parks along industrial corridors and other parts of the country. Dr. Pawan stresses that fashion is no more about luxury, it is a commodity that will soon rage into tier 3 and tier 4 cities too. Praising the capabilities of young Indian minds, he adds that our institutes of technology are veritable institutes of innovation, that will upscale initiatives and skills in the sector.    
The institute here offers short term evening and weekend Continuing Education (Certificate) Programme and full time regular Diploma Programme in Design, Management and Technology that are aimed at complimenting practical knowledge of industry professionals with technical education in their respective areas of work.

To provide an academic gradient, the institute’s international linkages allow the students to participate in international competitions/seminars/research/exhibitions, and other events," informed Dr. Pawan Godiawala.  

NIFT had entered into a strategic alliance with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, USA. This new international dimension allows select meritorious students from NIFT, the unique opportunity to obtain a Dual Degree from both NIFT and FIT. Students from NIFT undertake two years of study at the home institute intercepted by one year of study at FIT. Thereafter, the students resume their studies at NIFT to obtain a Dual Degree from both institutes, Dr. Pawan added. 

BFTech or Bachelor in Fashion Technology is a 4-year undergraduate program that deals with the various technical aspects associated with the apparel-manufacturing sector. Through this course, one gets a thorough understanding of topics that focus on apparel manufacturing processes, quality control, management and the applications of information technology and artificial intelligence in the apparel-manufacturing sector.
Technical aspects apart, aesthetic and design aspects too are incorporated in the course curriculum for a better understanding of the manufacturing processes, selection of materials and quality management.

B.F.Tech. is a course which helps understand the technical aspect of the fashion industry while also maintaining a stronghold on the fundamental aspects of fashion. This makes it easier for B.F.Tech. graduates to find employment in various roles in the fashion industry.
