The matter of ban on firecrackers reached the Supreme Court in West Bengal, a hearing will be held today

In view of the festivals in West Bengal, the matter of ban on firecrackers has reached the Supreme Court. The matter will be heard in the Supreme Court today i.e. on Monday at 3 pm.

In fact, the Calcutta High Court had ordered that this year there will be a ban on the sale, purchase, and use of firecrackers in the state during Kali Puja, Diwali, and some other festivals.

A special bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice Ajay Rastogi will hear this petition. The Supreme Court has asked the counsel for the state government and the counsel for the Pollution Control Board to appear. Along with this, the petitioner has also been asked to give a copy of the petition to the counsel of the State Government and Pollution Control Board.

The petition claimed that the order to ban firecrackers passed by the Calcutta High Court was completely wrong. Whereas the Supreme Court has given permission to burn green crackers within the permitted limits of all states.

The Firecrackers Union of West Bengal has said on this that the Calcutta High Court has ignored the fact that green crackers produce up to 30 percent fewer emissions. The green crackers that have been introduced in the local market are all eco-friendly.

Crisis on seven lakh families The

petitioners have said that the house of about seven lakh families is run by the firecracker industry. If a complete ban on the sale and use of firecrackers is imposed in West Bengal, then the sellers and manufacturers will suffer irreparable damage, which may lead to a complete shutdown of the firecracker industry and economic crisis for lakhs of people.

Firecrackers are banned at which festivals?

In West Bengal, the festivals for which the Calcutta High Court has banned are Kali Puja, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Christmas. Earlier, the West Bengal government had allowed the bursting of firecrackers for two hours (8-10) on Diwali, 6-8 on Chhath Puja, and 35 minutes on New Year's. However, the Calcutta High Court completely banned the use and sale of firecrackers on these occasions.
