The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval to the proposals of the Ministry of Rural Development to continue Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-I and II till September 2022.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval to the proposals of the Ministry of Rural Development to continue Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-I and II till September 2022.

The CCEA also approved the continuation of the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA) till March 2023.

Project delayed due to Corona

Most of the pending works under PMGSY-I & II are in North-East and hilly states due to COVID lockdown, extended rains, winter, Durgam forest. The states have been requesting the central government to extend the time to complete these important works. To help these states complete the remaining works, an extension is being given till September-2022.

1,12,419 crore including the state's share is likely to be spent from 2021-22 to 2024-25 to meet all the ongoing interventions of PMGSY. Under RCPLWEA, 4,490 km of roads and 105 bridges have already been completed in 44 districts of 9 states since 2016.

mobile service expansion

The cabinet approved the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) scheme for the provision of mobile services in uncovered villages of aspirational districts in the five states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

The project envisages providing 4 G-based mobile services to 7,287 villages in 44 aspirational districts of the five states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Odisha with an estimated cost of implementation of around Rs.6,466 crores, over a period of 5 years. Including operating expenses.

The project will be funded by Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). The project will be completed within 18 months of the signing of the agreement and is likely to be completed by November 23.
