Pune Airport Director Santosh said that the information about this decision has been given by the Airport Authority to the concerned bodies. He told that Pune's Lohagaon airport and airstrip come under the defense services. Maintenance of the runway of the airport is to be done. The maintenance work of the runway at the airport is to be done between October 15 and October 29.
According to the Pune Airport Administration, in September 2020 itself, the airport was to be closed for 15 days and maintenance was to be done. But they were not allowed by the central government. The maintenance work of the runway is being done this year. For this, the Pune airport will be closed from October 15 to October 29. The airport will be restarted after the completion of the runway maintenance work.
Maintenance happens every 10 years
According to Pune airport director Santosh Doke, the maintenance of the runway takes place after about ten years, which is known as surfacing work. The top layer of the entire two-and-a-half-kilometer-long runway will be relayed in these fifteen days. For this, there will be no air traffic, no take-off, and no landing on the runway for 15 days. Significantly, 58 to 60 flights are being operated from Pune airport every day. It is said that 10 to 12 thousand passengers are traveling from this airport every day.
