NAVI MUMBAI: The JNPT administration is constructing a 19 kms concrete road in the JNPT customs-bound area for enabling smooth traffic movement. The project cost is estimated to be Rs 210 crores.The bhoomi poojan ceremony of the project was done on Saturday by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterway, Sarbananda Sonowal. Sonowal visited JNPT for the inauguration of the Medical Oxygen plant at JNPT hospital and also visited the JNPT’s Gateway Terminal of India (GTI) for getting first-hand information of India’s premier container handling port.

JNPT chairman Sanjay Seth said, "The tender for the project of Rs 210 crore concrete road construction in the 19 kms of the customs-bound area has been awarded to Neeraj Cement Structurals Limited. The contractor has to complete this project in 24 months, as per the tender clause."JNPT chairman Sanjay Sethi took the Minister around the port and provided information about the port’s operations, infrastructure and technological advancements. Sonowal reviewed JNPT’s public-private partnerships by engaging with JNPT’s key stakeholders.

At the Q&A session with media representatives, Sonowal said, “While, the medical oxygen generation plant at JNPT hospital will benefit a major population in the city, from an infrastructure point of view, the Rs 210 crore estimated concrete road project by JNPT will facilitate road connectivity, which will play a pivotal for the trading sector.""By prioritizing rail, road, waterways and airways connectivity, the importers and exporters will benefit from the well-equipped facilities at JNPT. With consistent technology-based advances and multimodal infrastructure development, JNPT will anchor itself as a mega port by the year 2030," said Minister Sonowal.Sonowal emphasized, "JNPT administration has taken coordinated and integrated efforts to provide quality service for container freight services.

The 29 processing units to be set up in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is an example to reckon with."When questioned about JNPT's Project Affected Persons (PAPs) awaiting 12.5% compensation, relief, and rehabilitation after their land acquisition, JNPT chairman Sanjay Sethi said, "JNPT has paid to Cidco for infrastructure development and für the land acquired from local villagers. Hence, Cidco is the concerned authority to resolve the issue."
