CBSE, CISCE Term 1 Board Exam 2022: Supreme Court cancels petition, board exams will be offline only

CBSE, CISCE Term 1 Board Exams 2022 Supreme Court Hearing: The Supreme Court has rejected the petition of students to conduct CBSE and ICSE, ISC Board Term 1 examination in hybrid mode in the academic year 2022. Term 1 board exams will now be conducted offline only and students will not have the option to take online exams.

Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde told the court that the pandemic is not over yet and it is too early to say that the examinations will be offline. The virus can spread among children. This may affect 14 lakh children and the petitioner only wants the hybrid model to continue.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that last year there was no hybrid exam. There are 14 lakh students in class 10 and 20 lakh in class 12. The examinations have already started on November 16, 2021, the notice of which was issued in October. The concerns of COVID have been taken care of.

He argued that earlier 40 students used to sit in the class but now only 12 students will sit in the class so that social distancing is followed. Apart from this, the examination centers have been increased to 15,000. Also, the exam time of three hours has now been reduced to 90 minutes. He said that security measures have been taken without disrupting the process of examination.

On this, Advocate Hegde said that this is not a question of 34 lakh students. Along with the students of the examinations, parents also come. Major papers like Language, Mathematics, and Science are crowded. In such a situation, students should be given a chance to take advantage of the hybrid model. SG Mehta said that there are 15,000 examination centers and the examinations are going on offline. Now how can they be done online?

The court held that giving hope to the students at the last moment would be discouraging them. The education system will also be messed with. Since the examinations are going on since November 16, it would not be appropriate to interfere and disrupt the entire process. The court has been assured that all necessary precautions are being taken for the offline examinations.
