Mumbai, August 6, 2024: In a significant breakthrough against corruption, the Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) successfully conducted a sting operation on August 6, 2024, leading to the arrest of three individuals involved in a massive bribery case amounting to ₹2 crores.

Details of the Operation:

Complainant: 58-year-old male

Case Register Number: 23/2024

Under Sections: 7, 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988

Accused Public Servant:

  1. Shri Mandar Ashok Tari: Designated Officer, K-East Ward, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Andheri East, Mumbai
  2. Mohammad Shehzada Mohammad Yasin Sha: 33-year-old property estate agent (private individual)
  3. Pratik Vijay Pise: 35-year-old contractor (private individual)

Demanded Bribe Amount: ₹2,00,00,000 (₹2 crores)

Verification Date: August 6, 2023

Accepted Bribe Amount: ₹75,00,000

Background:

The complainant owns a four-storey building on Plot Numbers 191 and 192, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, JB Nagar, Mumbai-58. The top two floors of this building are unauthorized. To avoid demolition and to seek assistance for unauthorized constructions on planned plots 193 and 194, a bribe of ₹2 crores was demanded by the accused.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, lodged a written complaint with the ACB, Mumbai, on July 31, 2024. During the verification process on August 6, 2024, the public servant agreed to accept ₹75 lakhs as the first installment of the bribe. The sting operation was executed promptly, during which private individuals Mohammad Shehzada Mohammad Yasin Sha and Pratik Vijay Pise were caught red-handed accepting the bribe on behalf of the public servant.

Result:

The ACB, Mumbai, has registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. This operation marks a crucial step in the fight against corruption, reinforcing the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold integrity and transparency.
