Shramik Sena Union Holds Meeting to Address Concerns of Contract, Temporary, and COVID-Era Workers

Navi Mumbai, September 21, 2024 — The Shramik Sena Union, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Unit, held its first collective meeting today to discuss the issues faced by contract, temporary, and COVID-era workers. The meeting, chaired by former Mayor Sagar Naik, was attended by senior leaders including General Secretary Charan Jadhav, Divisional Secretary Vijay Sale, NMMC Unit President Rajusingh Chavan, General Secretary Ram Chavan, Vice President Sunil Gavit, Women’s Vice President Uma Agarwadkar, Health Vice President Sunil Rathod, Treasurer Rakesh Ambekar, Secretary Abhinav Solanke, and Fourth-Class Secretary Laxman Jadhav. Over 300 workers gathered at Crystal House to discuss matters related to wage increases and the push for permanent employment.

The primary focus of the meeting was addressing the workers' demand for wage hikes and ensuring the permanent status of contract and temporary employees. The union discussed formulating an updated proposal to pursue these demands effectively. Sagar Naik directed union officials to take concrete steps in drafting the necessary documents and proposals to ensure progress on these issues.

During the session, Rajusingh Chavan and Ram Chavan presented the workers' concerns, emphasizing the urgency of resolving these issues. Vijay Sale and Charan Jadhav assured the workers that senior officials would be approached to expedite the resolution of these problems. They also noted that, if required, the union is prepared to take further action, including organizing protests.

This meeting marks a significant step for the Shramik Sena Union, as it unites contract, temporary, and COVID-era workers in their fight for fair wages and job security. With strong leadership and a clear agenda, the union is committed to securing a better future for the workers in Navi Mumbai.
